A neck gaiter is in direct contact with sweat and dust during running, cycling, riding and outdoor activities. Washing it correctly matters for hygiene and for the life of the print. HEADWEAR® neck gaiters are sublimation printed on 100% polyester; these steps are written for that fabric.
Short answer
Wash your neck gaiter at 30°C, inside out. No fabric softener or bleach, no tumble dryer.
Step by step
- Turn it inside out to protect the printed surface.
- Use a 30°C delicate cycle. High heat can reduce elasticity.
- Wash with similar colours, away from zips and Velcro; a laundry bag helps.
- Use a small amount of liquid detergent.
- Skip softener and bleach. Softener can weaken the moisture-wicking finish.
- Air dry, out of direct sun and off radiators. Microfiber dries fast.
- No ironing needed.
Hand washing
Swish gently in lukewarm water (max 30°C) with mild detergent, rinse without rubbing and press out water without wringing.
How long does the antibacterial finish last?
The antibacterial finish stays effective for about 10 washes. In lab testing (Ekoteks, Report No. 2500007462, ASTM E2149-20) the printed fabric showed an 85.13% reduction of E. coli after 60 minutes. Regular washing keeps the gaiter hygienic after that.
How often?
After every sweaty use.
